South Bay Republican Women Federated received its charter July 7, 1938, making our Club two months older than the official start of the National Federation of Republican Women. We have members and Associates from the cities of Torrance, Redondo Beach, Hermosa Beach, Manhattan Beach, Lomita, Harbor City, Palos Verdes, San Pedro, Gardena, El Segundo, Hawthorne, and Lawndale. We have continued to be an active Club since 1938 as well as a Diamond Award winning organization. Our Diamond Jubilee Celebration was held on June 15th. 2013 and our 80th birthday celebration was held in 2018, both held at the Torrance Doubletree Hotel. All member meetings tables are adorned with floral arrangements, and we have invited guest speakers at each meeting, as well as highlight Republican candidates during elections.
Many members have served positions at the Los Angeles County Federation of Republican Women, CFRW Southern Division RWF, and the California Federation of Republican Women (CFRW) levels. Charlotte Mousel, one of our members, served as president of the National Federation of Republican Women. Charlotte joined South Bay RWF in 1957, and the first office she held was Recording Secretary. We are proud of the accomplishments of all members, and we welcome all women who wish to become involved in making our country a safer, more fiscally sound place where we can raise children to be proud and responsible citizens of the greatest nation in the world.
Our Club provides three annual scholarships to deserving seniors from our local high schools, and many of our winners have received scholarship honors and financial gifts from upper levels of the Federation. Every year we contribute books to local high schools under the Mamie Eisenhower Library Project (MELP). We also support donations to our nation’s armed forces; one year contributing to the “Bob Hope USO” located at the Los Angeles International Airport, donations to the “Wounded Warriors Project”, presented a proclamation to the City of Torrance for their long standing commitment of a Memorial Day Parade every year until COVID, tremendous donations over the years to 4 Paws 4 Patriots, donations for Bible Sticks for the military, donations got Guideposts subscriptions to the military and in 2020 through donations participated in the Wreaths Across America project. We have in the past supported two local elementary fourth grade classrooms from underprivileged neighborhoods, contributed to the House of Yahweh (a shelter for homeless and battered women and children) and have made donations to the Torrance Pregnancy Help Center. We publish a yearly Member Book and provide copies to all members and Associates.
We regularly donate time to register Republican voters at local city Farmer’s Market or fairs and have worked at the Los Angeles County Fair with promotion and registration. During the year we generously supported the Republican Headquarters within the area. We work closely with the California Republican Assembly groups within our communities and work with and have a member elected to the Republican Central Committee Assembly District 62 and an Associate elected to District 66. We do day trips to President’s Libraries, local points of interest of members and a fun day for those attending.
In 2020 South Bay RWF celebrated the 100th Centennial of Women's Suffrage during a Zoom member meeting with members dressing for the occasion. A scripted play was presented by four of the Board members.
We are a proactive organization supporting the Republican Principles. Our members feel immensely proud and extremely fortunate to be part of the South Bay Republican Women Federated. We invite you to join us for our speaker luncheons!
